I have heard many people who admire Jesus say that “He was certainly a wise man and a great teacher,” or “He was an amazing moral teacher.” Was He just that, though?
The uniqueness of Jesus is that you can’t sit on the fence with Him. He claimed to be the Son of God. I know a lot of wise people, and if any of them claimed to be the Son of God, I would no longer think they were wise. I would think they were crazy!
What is Jesus to you? If He is merely a wise teacher, you are straddling a precarious perch. No one can be wise and delusional at the same time. Jesus was either everything He said He was, or He was a fraud, or He was crazy. The second option would destroy any vestige of His position as a moral teacher. The third would destroy any vestige of wisdom. The only salvageable position is the first, which would require you to do more than just pay lip service. So, who do you say that He is?
