Faithful to Complete

Favorite Bible verse, hands-down:

…being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ,” (Philippians 1:6)

There are plenty of times when I screw up.  I don’t want to be the guy to let God down, but it happens.  Fortunately, I know that even in my fallenness, God loves me, and my shortcomings, though they are many and serious, do not disqualify me from the love of God.  They may be things that God will work on, and He will!  God loves me, but He is not going to leave me standing here holding the bag.  He wants to make me just like Jesus!

Sometimes people deflate the majesty and glory of this verse by demanding that we all agree that it takes us being obedient, as though our pitiful works and demonstrations are enough to impress God.  The sad nature of that statement is that we even are empowered for obedience to God by His Grace and Providence.  Our relationship with God is exactly like any relationship on earth.  It is a two way street, and our part of the bargain is to really commit to love the Lord our God.  His part is to mold us and change us and bring us to a point of completion on the great day of our Lord!  The ride along the way is what we call sanctification, and it is a process where God, through circumstances, His own corrections, and many other variables, slowly changes us and brings us closer and closer to personal holiness in Him.

Take a moment today and think about the fact that God Himself, in His unbounded love for us, provides a way for our sanctification through His own sweet, soft, loving influence in our lives!
