It strikes me as interesting that God told Moses that “This month shall be for you the beginning of months. It shall be the first month of the year for you.” Exodus 12:2, ESV. I think it is important to note that for us because of the ramifications for Christians.
Just as the Exodus from Egypt was a new beginning for the Israelites, so much so that their calendar was based on it, so our salvation in Christ is a new beginning. As such, when we consider the Passover, we must consider that the Passover and the ensuing celebration and ritual is a type that points directly to Christ and His sacrifice to save us from our sins and transgressions. Like the Israelites, we have a new beginning in the sacrifice that Jesus made for us.
How has that sacrifice changed your life? Have you made it the centerpiece of your life, or does it take a back seat? Is it merely formality, or is it the glue that holds you together? For many people, myself included, I think it can be both.
